The Texas deadlines a new business can't miss. Check them off as you go. This isn't a substitute for advice from your accountant.

First few weeks

Check your letter from the Comptroller. It tells you if you file sales tax monthly, quarterly or yearly.Sales tax is due on the 20th of the month after each period. Quarterly: January 20, April 20, July 20 and October 20.Get your certificate of occupancy from your city.Using a business name that isn't yours or your LLC's? Register it as an assumed name (DBA).Create or claim your Google Business Profile so people find you on Maps.

If you're hiring

Register with the Texas Workforce Commission within 10 days of your first payroll.Report every new hire within 20 days of their start date.

Mark your calendar

April 15: file a rendition of your business property (inventory, furniture, equipment) with the Hidalgo County Appraisal District. Starting in 2026, a $125,000 exemption per location may apply.May 15 of the year after you open: your first franchise tax report (LLCs and corporations). Under $2,650,000 in revenue, no tax is due, but you still file an information report.
